June 11, 2025, SNEC – HiTHIUM, a global leader in energy storage technology, has redefined industry safety benchmarks by successfully completing the world's first all open-door large-scale fire test on its ∞Block 5MWh energy storage system. The groundbreaking test, certified by UL Solutions, validates the system's unparalleled safety under extreme conditions.
Conducted under four worst-case scenarios, the test pushed safety limits:
· Open-door combustion (maximizing oxygen exposure)
· Dual 15 cm ultra-narrow spacing between containers
· Deactivated fire suppression system
· 100% State of Charge (SOC) at time of ignition
Key Findings:
1. Peak Fire Phase (4th Hour)
· Flame temperature reached 1,372°C—yet no thermal runaway occurred in adjacent containers.
· Adjacent cell temperatures remained far below critical thresholds:
Container B: ≤42°C
Container C: ≤80°C
Container D: ≤70°C
2. Post-Combustion Integrity (15 Hours Later)
· Initiating container structurally intact—no deformation or collapse.
· Zero fire propagation to adjacent units.
· Only minor surface damage observed; internal modules fully operational.
HiTHIUM’s success stems from its cell-to-system protection design:
· Cell Level: Heat-resistant electrodes, flame-retardant electrolytes, and high-temp separators.
· Module Level: Fireproof insulation and thermal barrier covers.
· System Level: Reinforced steel frame and heat-deflecting enclosures.
UL Solutions awarded HiTHIUM compliance with UL 9540A and NFPA 855 standards.
"This open-door test exceeds conventional closed-door fire tests, setting a new precedent for energy storage safety worldwide," said Qifeng Xiao, UL Solutions’ Asia Pacific Energy GM.
By publicly sharing test data and footage, HiTHIUM reinforces its commitment to safety innovation, accelerating the global transition to secure green energy solutions.
