· Six BESS projects (20MW-50MW each, 2-hour duration) now in commissioning phase
· Uses Fluence's Gridstack technology, with commercial operations set for October 2025
· First fully remote commissioning due to wartime constraints, with Ukrainian engineers trained in Europe
· Will provide critical grid stability services amid Ukraine's energy challenges
Energy investor DTEK and system integrator Fluence have begun commissioning a 200MW/400MWh battery storage portfolio across Ukraine. The projects, contracted with grid operator Ukrenergo, utilize Fluence's standardized Gridstack cubes for scalable deployment.
The ongoing war has necessitated innovative approaches, making this Fluence's first remotely commissioned project. The company trained 20 Ukrainian engineers in Germany and Finland to handle operations, while providing continuous remote support for diagnostics and monitoring.
The battery systems will deliver essential grid services, including:
· Frequency regulation
· Power reserve capacity
· Balancing during outages
Julian Nebreda, Fluence CEO, noted: "Our remote commissioning model ensures both rapid deployment and operational continuity despite current challenges."
This Ukrainian deployment complements DTEK's growing European storage footprint, including a 532MWh project acquired in Poland last year. The portfolio represents a critical step in strengthening Ukraine's energy resilience.
